No motion or discussion may take place upon the Minutes except as to their accuracy, and any question on this point will be determined by a majority of the Members of the body attending who were present when the matter in question was decided.  Once confirmed, with or without amendment, the person presiding will sign the Minutes.

That the minutes of the meeting of the General Purposes Committee held on 28 May 2019 be agreed and signed as a true and accurate record.

The report seeks agreement for a number of recommendations, as et out in the report.

Decision:

To create three stages within the Social Work Grade for children’s social workers; Assessed & Supported Year in Employment, Consolidating Professional Practice and Proficient

 

To change the remuneration of social workers by consolidating the current 10% golden hello and 10% retention payments into the basic remuneration of social workers.

 

To change the job documentation of children’s social workers in the fostering and adoption teams and the Children with Disabilities Team to reflect the three stages within the Social Work Career Grade integrating the national Knowledge and Skills Statements into the person specification.

 

To change the notice period social workers give when they are leaving the employment of Royal Greenwich to 2 months.

Minutes:

In response to questions from the Committee, the Director of Children’s Services confirmed that there were to be some net savings achieved through the changes being proposed. 

 

Agency staff numbers had already reduced and the Assistant Director, Human Resources said that in the long term, further savings would be made as Social Workers would be receiving a salary that is comparable to other boroughs and RBG would reduce staff turnover and reliance on agency staff.

 

Resolved –
